What Are Dermal Fillers?
Restoring Volume, Softness, and Natural Balance
As we age, our skin gradually loses volume, elasticity, and hydration. Fine lines deepen, cheeks may appear flatter, and lips lose definition. Dermal fillers are a safe, effective way to restore youthful contours, enhance natural features, and refresh the face — all without surgery.
What Are Dermal Fillers Made Of?
Most modern fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA) — a naturally occurring sugar molecule found in the skin that helps maintain moisture and plumpness. HA fillers blend seamlessly into the skin, providing smooth, natural-looking results that can be adjusted or dissolved if needed.
How Fillers Work
Fillers are gently injected beneath the skin to replace lost volume, smooth wrinkles, or enhance specific features such as lips, cheeks, jawline, or under-eyes. Depending on the formula and treatment area, results can last from 6 months to 2 years.
Common Treatment Areas
Cheeks and midface
Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
Lips and lip borders
Chin and jawline
Tear troughs (under-eye hollows)
Ear Lobes
Hands (for volume restoration)
What to Expect During Treatment
Filler treatments are typically quick, comfortable, and require little downtime. A topical numbing medication is used for 30 minutes prior to treatment. Most products contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that minimizes discomfort. You may notice mild swelling or redness immediately after, which usually subsides within a few days. Bruising typically lasts 8-10 days. Post- procedure swelling can increase in the 24h after treatment and usually resolves within a week. There are certain pre-treatment precautions to take to minimize any inflammation and bruising.
Results and Maintenance
You’ll see results right away, with continued improvement as the filler settles. Maintenance sessions are recommended once or twice a year to sustain the desired look.
